Handprint & Fingerprint Flag ..... Proud to be an American craft

My son & daughter made this Handprint American Flag together as a brother/sister craft for the 4th of July!

We used the Melissa & Doug art supplies we ordered from Gummy Lump. I just adore the Melissa & Doug collection & the quality of their products!

How to make this handprint & fingerprint flag:
Handprint American Flag Craft for Kids

1. Using a blue ink pad I pressed my daughter's cute, chubby hand on to it and then made a handprint in the corner of our jumbo paper. I repeated this 5 times. The amount of prints you will need for your flag will depend upon the size of the child's hand.

2. Since the paper is 12 inches in height, I used a ruler to make a dot at every inch mark. If you want to have 13 stripes, then you will have to divide 12 inches by 13 and make your marks accordingly. I also made dots at the other end of the paper so my lines would be straight when I drew them.

3. Using the jumbo pad of paper as a ruler, I lined up the left side to the 1st dot on the left side and the right side to the 1st dot on the right side. Then I drew a line across the entire length of the page. I repeated this until all my lines were drawn.

4. My son used a red ink pad to make red fingerprints in every other stripe.

5. He used his stamp set to write "Proud to be an American" on the white striped areas. Alphabet stickerswould be fun too!

6. Both my son and daughter made white fingerprint stars on top of the blue handprints.

This is so cute! I needed a few more crafts for this week at work and this is perfect!!
I think I might be brave and let the kids use finger paint instead of the ink but we shall see!
Thanks for the idea and I hope your 4th of July is bright and wonderful!
